Terms of Service
Last updated: 3 July 2026
1. Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of Trace, including the website, dashboard, API, carrier tracking features, webhooks, documentation, and related services.
By creating an account, generating an API key, accessing the dashboard, or using the API, you agree to these Terms. If you use Trace on behalf of a company, you represent that you have authority to bind that company to these Terms.
2. The Trace service
Trace provides package tracking infrastructure that helps developers submit tracking numbers and receive carrier detection, normalized shipment status, tracking events, and webhook-ready updates.
Tracking information depends on third-party carriers, postal operators, logistics providers, and lookup sources. Trace does not control carrier scans, delivery operations, customs processes, or the accuracy and timing of carrier updates.
3. Accounts and security
You must provide accurate account information and keep it current. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and API keys.
You are responsible for all activity under your account and API keys, including activity by your employees, contractors, systems, and integrations. Notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access or compromised credentials.
4. API keys and acceptable use
Trace API keys are confidential credentials. You must not publish, share, embed in public client-side code, or otherwise expose API keys where unauthorized parties can use them.
You may use Trace only to track shipments you are authorized to track and only in compliance with applicable law, carrier rules, privacy obligations, and these Terms.
You must not use Trace to scrape unrelated websites, overload carrier systems, bypass security controls, perform illegal surveillance, send malicious traffic, reverse engineer protected systems, or interfere with the operation of Trace or third-party services.
5. Rate limits and fair use
Plans may include monthly lookup limits, per-minute request limits, cache behavior, carrier coverage, and other usage restrictions. We may enforce limits automatically to protect service reliability.
We may throttle, suspend, or restrict requests that appear abusive, fraudulent, excessive, or harmful, even if a specific numeric limit has not been exceeded.
6. Customer data
You retain rights to tracking numbers, webhook endpoints, account content, and other data you submit to Trace. You grant Trace the rights needed to process that data to provide, secure, maintain, and improve the service.
You are responsible for ensuring that your use of Trace and your submission of tracking information comply with laws, customer notices, privacy policies, and contractual obligations that apply to your business.
7. Webhooks
If you configure webhooks, you are responsible for the endpoint you provide and for securing your receiving systems. Trace may retry failed webhook deliveries but does not guarantee that every webhook will be delivered or processed by your systems.
You should design webhook receivers to handle retries, duplicate events, delayed events, and out-of-order events.
8. Billing and plans
Free and paid plans may differ by usage limits, features, support, and carrier coverage. Plan upgrades, downgrades, cancellations, refunds, invoices, and payment methods are managed through Trace's billing flow and payment provider.
Unless otherwise stated, subscription fees are billed in advance and are non-refundable except where required by law or expressly agreed in writing.
9. Availability and changes
We aim to provide a reliable service, but Trace may be unavailable due to maintenance, upgrades, outages, carrier changes, third-party failures, network issues, or events beyond our control.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features, plans, carrier coverage, or APIs. Where practical, we will provide reasonable notice for material changes that affect production use.
10. Disclaimers
Trace is provided on an 'as is' and 'as available' basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation.
Carrier tracking data may be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, unavailable, or inconsistent. You should not use Trace as the sole source for safety-critical, legal, customs, financial, or emergency decisions.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Trace will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, business interruption, or loss of goodwill.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Trace's total liability for claims relating to the service will not exceed the amount you paid to Trace for the service during the three months before the event giving rise to the claim, or 100 USD if you used only a free plan.
12. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms, create security risk, fail to pay amounts due, use the service abusively, or expose Trace or others to legal or operational risk.
You may stop using Trace at any time. Account deletion requests can be made through the contact page.
13. Contact
Questions about these Terms can be sent through the contact page at /contact.
